I have a toothache, what should I do?
The best way to deal with it is to call our practic to schedule a prompt dental appointment.
Even slight discomfort/niggling pain can escalate quickly so it is always best to see your dentist as soon as you feel something is not quite right. It is hard to diagnose the source of the toothache until you are examined.
In most situations, we offer same day appointments for dental emergencies.
I have/my child has knocked his/her whole tooth out, what should I do?
If it is a baby tooth, do NOT put the tooth back into the mouth. Make sure you have accounted for all the knocked out teeth/pieces so that we know the teeth have not been pushed into the gum. Call us to make an appointment as soon as possible so we can examine the area and determine if any further treatment is needed. It is a good idea to bring the lost tooth/teeth with you to the appointment.
If it is in adult tooth, hold the tooth by the crown (the white part of the tooth) not the root, and rinse off any dirt with cold water for no longer than 10 seconds. Then reimplant the tooth and get the patient to bite onto something to keep it in place until you get to the dentist. The sooner the tooth is repositioned into the mouth, the better the chance that it will survive. Make an appointment to see one of our dentists immediately.
If you are not confident repositioning the tooth, you can transport the tooth in a clean container with milk or your saliva. Do not store it in water. Make an appointment to see a dentist immediately.
Why is it important to treat my tooth/gum issue as soon as possible?
Prompt dental treatment, especially in situations causing pain, can often minimise damage to the living tissues and simplify future treatment.

Should I have my tooth taken out if it's painful?
At Greville Rd Medical & Dental, we are passionate about saving teeth. We always try and preserve our patient’s own teeth as long as possible because tooth replacement is often uncomfortable, expensive, and does not function as well as natural teeth.
After a thorough assessment of your teeth, your dentist will advise you on the best treatment option(s), usually with the aid of radiographs. In some situations, the extent of damage to the tooth may mean that there is no other option other than to remove the tooth.
If an extraction is necessary, our dentists are skilled in painless dental treatment, and will take every precaution to make the experience as pleasant as possible.
I have a dental emergency but it is after hours and no one is open, what should I do?

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30am-5pm Saturday 8am – 1pm
