There are a number of factors which indicate the best time to start orthodontic treatment. When conducting a comprehensive dental examination, our dentists also do an orthodontic screening to see if they can foresee any orthodontic issues which may need attention now or in the future. Sometimes we may wait until your child has all their permanent adult teeth, other times it may be better to start treatment earlier if the issues are more complex.<\/p>

The main reasons for getting braces are<\/p>

Cosmetic: straightening teeth and correct underbites\/overbites to create a beautiful smile. This can be life changing in patients who have previously not been able to smile with confidence!<\/p>

Function: improve the way the teeth fit together so that your chewing abilities are improved<\/p>

Health: improve the position of your teeth so that it is easier for you to clean your teeth, thus reducing the risk of tooth decay & gum disease. On average, a full course of braces will take 18 months to 2 years. Your dentist will be able to give a better time estimate once he\/she has assessed you\/your child\u2019s individual situation.<\/p>
